How is Canada Managing Immigration Levels?
Canada is still maintaining strict protocols to prevent the spread of coronavirus transmission, borders are still not opened fully for international arrivals. Travel exemptions are being given for certain categories and compassionate reasons etc. therefore, it is highly impossible for immigrants to travel to Canada, as per the current conditions.
In this scenario, IRCC has been inviting immigrants who are already in Canada to apply for PR through program-specific draws.
The Canadian government set an ambitious target to welcome 401,000 new immigrants this year 2021. To achieve this target amid situations hampered by covid, IRCC has targeted the candidates who are already in Canada and has been focusing more on Canadian Experience Class i.e skilled candidates who are working and staying in Canada are being given invitations to apply for PR.
IRCC has been organising PNP-specific and CEC-specific draws back to back in the new year 2021, has issued 44,124 invitations to date. On this date last year, the number of invitations were 22,600. The Feb 13th draw played an important role in this spike, this draw is the largest draw ever in the history of Canadian immigration by inviting 27,332 individuals.
