Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2021-23: Will Canada Achieve This Year Target?

Canada always encourages immigration, welcomes immigrants in large numbers and is moving forward to meet the ambitious targets of the Canada Immigration Levels Plan 2021-2023 that was officially released by the government at the end of the last year.
Canada has a low birth rate, an ageing population and also a shortage of skilled workforce, which is why the nation is keen to invite abroad people to counter these three issues. Pandemic had affected Canada immigration in 2020, though performed well in the final months. Compared to 341,175 new PRs in 2019, Canada was able to admit only 184,370 permanent residents in 2020 due to the pandemic and lockdown, a drastic reduction.
However, 2021 started on a high note and even hints at achieving the immigration target of this year, 401,000 permanent residents.
In January 2021, IRCC welcomed 26,600 new permanent residents that mark nearly a 10 per cent increase compared to 2020 Jan figures, while 27,332 ITAs were issued to immigration candidates on a single day that made a historical feat by breaking the previous record.
On February 13, the Canada government invited 27,332 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence through the Express Entry system. 5 times more than the previous record-breaking draw.
With the latest figures, Canada is on track to achieve the immigration target for 2021 (i.e 401,000 new permanent residents).
