Canada: New Open Work Permit Benefits Essential Workers and International Student Graduates. What About Their Family Members?
New Open Work Permit Launch
On July 26 2021, Canadian government launched a new open work permit for essential workers and international student graduates, who have applied for Canada Permanent Residency (PR).
Through this new permit, essential workers and students who did graduation in Canadian institutions are allowed to stay and work in Canada while they wait for the results of their PR application. This facility is extended upto December 31, 2022.
Addition of Family Members
Good news is that the principal applicants can also include their immediate family members on the new open work permit policy.
Immediate family are spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children.
Eligible family members are allowed to work in Canada. However, family members should be staying in Canada to get the benefit of a new work permit and also should meet the eligibility requirements.
Age 18 and Above
Younger kids aged 18 and older are also eligible to be included on the work permit. Students are able to get a study permit, or study without if parents are staying in Canada and not on a visitor’s visa or Tourist visa.
