Canada: Quebec Revealed New Immigration Pilot Programs To Attract Foreign Workers
The government of Quebec has revealed the details of the new immigration pilot programs, which are scheduled to be implemented from 2021. The news was published in Gazette officielle du Québec on October 28, 2020, an official publication of the Quebec government to announce and promote new laws, programs and regulations.
Here are the details of the three new permanent immigration pilot programs:
The intention of Quebec government in introducing the pilot programs is to fill up the workforce shortage within the province by attracting and retaining workers belonging to foreign nations as per the requirement.
The new immigration pilot programs will come into effect after 45 days (deliberation period) from the date of the announcement.
Pilot program for orderlies
This program will last for five years, invites 550 orderlies (non-medical care staff in hospitals) and nurse assistants each year. Family members are also eligible to get benefits through this program, will be awarded Quebec Selection Certificates.
Pilot program for employees in 3 sectors: artificial intelligence, information technologies and visual effects
The pilot program welcomes 550 workers (every year) belonging to artificial intelligence, information technologies and visual effects to Quebec and. It is also a five-year program. Family members are also eligible. The selection of workers would be equal between the artificial intelligence sector and the other two fields.
Pilot program for food processing industry workers
The 3rd one, the pilot program for workers in food processing, will invite 550 foreign workers each year from the food processing sector to work in their food processing field that has a shortage of labour. Family members are also eligible to get benefits of this program.
In addition, the government also brought few changes to the immigration programs
Only 50 applications will be processed under the Self Employed Program for the period from November 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021.
Not more than 25 applications will be accepted under the first stream of the Entrepreneur Program.
Currently, the second stream of the program is not in function and has been suspended.
Quebec has also renewed the selection criteria for the Regular Skilled Worker Program that will remain in effect up to 1st November 2021.
