Canada: Rise In Processing of Spousal Sponsorship Applications
The processing of Canada’s Spousal Sponsorship Applications has been accelerated, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has expedited the process of Spousal Sponsorship applications for Canadian immigration
There was a delay in the process due to the pandemic earlier, however, the work is moving at a rapid pace past a few months and it will continue
Permanent Residents and Canadian Citizens can sponsor their partners under this visa category, which means taking permits for spouses so that they can travel to Canada and stay together
The number of applications (spousal sponsorship) that are processed in September 2020 is higher (exactly doubled) compared to July 2020
IRCC had processed 4,000 applications in September 2020, while 2,000 in July, there is a significant improvement
Applications from outside Canada were higher in September (almost 2000), while in July it was just 800
IRCC is assuring the same level of improvement towards the end of this year 2020
Spousal Sponsorship
Spousal Sponsorship is one of the top priority visas, which allows the eligible partners to live together in Canada.
Through this visa category, Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their partner to live permanently along with them In Canada
Spousal Sponsorship-Eligibility
Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to sponsor their partners to stay in Canada
Candidates who are sponsoring must be at least 18 years old
Submit proof that they do not receive social assistance for a reason other than a disability
Submit proof that they can meet the basic financial needs of their partners
Canadian citizens who are currently outside Canada are required to prove that they live with their sponsored partner in Canada
Canadian citizens and permanent residents are eligible to sponsor their legal spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner
Legal Spouses must be at least 18 years old
Common-law partners are also eligible if only they have at least an age of 18 years and both must have lived for a prerequisite period-12 successive months minimum
The same applies to Conjugal partners having an age of 18 years. Both the sponsor and his/her partner must have maintained a relationship for a minimum of 12 consecutive months
